Competency in Optometry Examination
The following is a detailed guide to the content and assessment of all components of the competency in optometry examination.
Progress Rule Update
There is no limit to the number of times a candidate may sit the written examination, however, the clinical examination must be passed within three (3) years of successfully completing the written examination, or within six consecutive examination sessions provided by OCANZ should the examination not be offered twice a year. Candidates who fail either the Skills Station examination or the Patient examination are encouraged to undertake remedial work targeted at updating their competencies, knowledge, clinical judgment and/or technical skills before their next attempt. After this three-year period, the candidate is required to successfully complete the written examination again to be eligible for the clinical examination.
