Indigenous Cultural Safety

The accreditation standards include the requirement for programs of study to integrate cultural competence/safety as required learning outcomes.  The following documents contains recommendations to implement this requirement.

Optometry Health Curriculum Framework Implementation Guides

The Optometry Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Curriculum Framework: Implementation Guide and the Optometry Māori Health Curriculum Framework: Implementation Guide has been developed to assist optometry educators embed the Optometry Health Curriculum Frameworks into the curriculum. The Implementation Guides articulate OCANZs expectations for implementation of each Framework in Australia and Aotearoa and provide recommendations to guide successful implementation of the learning outcomes, including key statements on Indigenous Data Sovereignty and the use of generative Artificial Intelligence in teaching and assessing cultural safety learning.
