General registration

Graduates of OCANZ-accredited undergraduate optometry courses are entitled to seek general registration with any of the 8 optometrists registration boards in Australia and with the Optometrists Registration Board in New Zealand.

Registration board approval for therapeutic practice

Changes to legislation in New Zealand and in most of the Australian jurisdictions have extended the scope of optometric practice to include the prescribing of certain controlled drugs and poisons (‘therapeutic practice’).

List of accredited courses, successful completion of which entitles the graduate to apply for registration board approval for therapeutic practice.
