OCANZ accredited training in ocular therapeutics
OCANZ has accredited the postgraduate courses in ocular therapeutics conducted by each of the four Schools/Departments of Optometry in Australia and New Zealand. OCANZ has also accredited the therapeutics training within the undergraduate courses at the universities of Auckland and Melbourne.
Applicants seeking registration board approval for therapeutic practice (in jurisdictions where this is permitted) must hold a qualification listed below.
Optometrists trained outside of Australia and New Zealand are required to complete OCANZ-accredited therapeutics training before being granted approval for therapeutic practice.
Undergraduate courses
The therapeutics training within the following undergraduate optometry courses has been accredited by OCANZ:
- BOptom from The University of Melbourne, Department of Optometry & Vision Sciences (2006 graduates and onwards; next scheduled accreditation site visit 2014)
- BOptom from The University of Auckland, Department of Optometry & Vision Science (2006 graduates and onwards; next scheduled accreditation site visit 2017)
- BOptomBSc from The University of New South Wales, School of Optometry & Vision Science (next scheduled accreditation site visit 2018)
Postgraduate courses in ocular therapeutics
The postgraduate therapeutics courses at the following universities have been granted accredited status by OCANZ. Accredited status is subject to there being no major changes to the course and subject to submission of satisfactory evaluation reports at the completion of each course.
- Postgraduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics from The University of Melbourne, Department of Optometry & Vision Sciences (Graduates during the period 2001 – 2005 completed training accredited by the Optometrists Registration Board of Victoria. OCANZ accreditation granted in 2006; next scheduled re-assessment 2013)
- Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics from Queensland University of Technology, School of Optometry (2005 graduates and onwards; next scheduled re-assessment 2013)
- Courses OPTOM 781, 784, 787 A&B from the Postgraduate Diploma in Science from The University of Auckland, Department of Optometry & Vision Science (accreditation granted in 2006; next scheduled re-assessment 2013). Note: The Auckland Programme in Ocular Therapeutics (TAPIOT) course conducted between 2003 and 2005 was granted accreditation by the Optometrists Registration Board of Victoria.
- Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics from The University of New South Wales, School of Optometry & Vision Science (2008 graduates and onwards; next scheduled re-assessment 2014)
